Skiing: Not All Boots Are The Same
While someone who is not an avid skier may believe that all ski boots are the same, this simply is not true. The first difference is that items are varied for men, women and children. Other basics involve a variety of colors and styles. There are boots that are better for beginners and those made to withstand the wear and tear of a professional.
So before you boot up for your ski chalet holidays, keep in mind that even within these realms, not all boots are created equal. A boot is evaluated on it’s overall functionality, extreme ease of use, the internal comfort/fit and the overall fit. Children’s boots follow the same guidelines as adults in regards to basic and more durable. These range in price from $50 up to $135 and even higher. Good quality ski boots should conform to a child’s foot while still allowing for growth.
Women’s boots range in price from $125 upwards of $250. A good boot for women offers room for smaller feet and makes an exception for lower calf muscles. The internal liner should close securely around the top of the boot. It should be made from a breathable material so as to keep the foot warm but not lock in moisture. A good ski boot has the ability to limit or totally eliminate vibrations. It also keeps the foot protected from humidity and cold temperatures.
Men’s boots start at $150 and continue up towards $400 a pair. The more expensive boots offer the most comfort. A lower notched shell offers a way to take the boot off and on easier. The have what is referred to as a control fit liner and a hinged boot. Both of these allow for all-day comfort, ease and ultimate warmth not only when skiing but when hiking and walking. This is great for ski instructors, professionals and those that just love spending the days on the slopes.
