Stein Eriksen

Among all biographies of ski competitors, one is particularly interesting and quite impressive – the one of the Norweian skier Stein Eriksen. Born on the 11th December 1927 in Oslo, Norway, he became one of the most significant and influential figures in the world of skiing, his career became an inspiration for many ski sportsmen and during his active life he significantly contributed for the development and spreading of this sport.
The Olympic games achievements of Eriksen remain among the most impressive moments of his life. In 1952, during the Olympics in Oslo, Stein became the first skier who won the giant slalom and was outside the Alpine region ( before that each winner was from a country within the Alps range, incuding the French val disere chalet region, Austria and Switzerland for example). During the same Olympics, he won the silver medal in Slalom too thus making himself the Norway’s best sportsmen of the year and remaining of the history of the Olympic games skiing disciplines.
Probably the biggest achievement of Eriksen was during the World Championship in Are, Sweden in 1954. This is when the skier won 3 gold medals – in slalom, giant slalom and the combined discipline. This brought him immense fame and made him quite popular especially in the US. He was pronounced one of the most successful skiers of all times and was announced one of the most successful Norweian sportsmen. After that incredible success, Eriksen was involved in the popularisation and development of skiing in the US, took part in the activities of many ski schools and trained many young men thus contributing to the spreading of the sport around the US.
