The forthcoming Winter Olympics will take place starting February 7th 2014 in a not so highly famed place near the Black Sea in Russia at a place called Sochi. One of these events would be alpine skiing. There are five events for both men and women differing only based on the length of the courses. These events would include:

  1. Downhill races which would have the longest course and would generate the most speed.
  2. Slalom races are the shortest courses and combine turns or gates.
  3. Giant slalom races are not very different from Slalom races but would have wider turns and fewer gates.
  4. Super-g meaning super giant slalom.
  5. Combined events would entail of having one downhill run followed by two slalom runs.

You then have cross country ski racing which consists of twelve events for male and female either in individual capacity or national team. There are team races which are somewhat like a relay with ten or more teams. An individual sprint has the individual ski the course in interval starts.

Freestyle Ski Racing involves individual or group competitions to face various jumps and bumps along the course for qualification and then winning.

Nordic Combined Competition is a male only bastion and consists of a ski jumping competition and cross country skiing race.

Finally, you have ski jumping which can be one of the most exhilarating events as the skier jumps a distance while skiing to compete for qualification and then final victory.

For skiing enthusiasts, the Winter Olympics has a plethora of adrenaline rushing skiing events on offer.
