Something for everyone

Now, this may sound a little crazy, but not everyone loves skiing. I know. Impossible, right? How can you not love hurtling down a snow-covered mountain at breathtaking speeds? But the fact is, that I have several friends who always coo over my stunning photographs from my Italian skiing holidays, but who really aren’t interested in skiing.
Luckily for them, Italy is one of those countries where a lot of the ski resorts are pretty close to major cities, or at least interesting towns. If you have a friend, or even a partner, who isn’t really into strapping on their skis or board and letting gravity do all the work, they can still come away with you and have a great time doing other things.
I think everyone would agree that snow covered mountains look fantastic. Even if you’re not out on the slopes themselves, visitors can still appreciate the impressive views you get from many hotel bars. And if they’re not going out on the mountain, they can sit and drink as much mulled wine as they like while they watch the world go by or playing a great solitare game.
That sounds like fun for a day or two, but it would probably start to get dull eventually. If you’re a fan of the Alpine resorts in the north, then you can always take a drive or a day trip to Lake Garda. It might be more of a summer resort, but it looks stunning in winter, with snow-covered mountains surrounding the icy water. Milan isn’t a huge distance from Alpine skiing either, and is a city full of art, history and designer shopping…
So, you don’t have to leave your pals or your loved ones behind when you go off skiing. Let them tag along and compromise. Go out for the day to cities or tourist attractions with them and they’re much more likely to put up with you spending the next day on the slopes.
