Come to Cortina

I had just gotten back from a wonderful vacation in the tiny village of Cortina, Italy. I called Hua Hin Property where a friend of mine works and said that if they ever branch out to Italy, they have to get property in this little heavenly place. Then I went on to describe how relaxing and pleasant this sleepy paradise is.

The majestic landscape invites scores of visitors to come to this place located next to the Dolomite Mountains. Those who love winter sports must visit this place at least once in their life time. Cortina even hosted the 1956 Winter Olympics making it world renowned. There are five main areas one can ski in Cortina which are connected by buses and lifts. The slopes together are 140 kilometers and there are over 100 downhill runs. Most of the trails are for those who are at the middle level of skiing with a small percentage for beginners and an even smaller one for experts. Cortina is only one of twelve ski areas that make up the Dolomiti Superski region.

When you visit Cortina you will experience much more than skiing. Some people just come to this quaint village to eat and shop. They never even head up to the slopes to ski. There are activities for those who don’t like to ski such as bob-sledding, snowshoeing, a horse-drawn sleigh, or being led across the snow by sled dogs.

Shoppers will find themselves delighted by what this town has to offer. These shops offer a variety of choices from wooden toys to jewelry and the latest fashion.

There are also several delicious cuisines to choose from. Most of the restaurants offer traditional Italian food and few other international dishes. One of the unique places to eat is at the rifugi, which used to be a mountain refuge and now is a place you can eat at right on the mountain slopes.

I was very satisfied with my visit to Cortina and plan to visit it once again. I couldn’t get enough of it, with the number slopes to choose from, the unique mountains, and the variety of activities that were there. Everyone should come to this little village at least once in their lifetime.
