Italy’s Snowboarding

Invariably when mention of snow or skiing was made, what jumped to my mind were the ski slopes of Switzerland. That was until I came across the opportunities that Italy throws up. After having hosted the winter Olympics in 2006, things have improved considerably here. Huge investments have been made and the facilities now are better than ever before. There are some superb runs along varied slopes. In fact, the Italian resorts tend to be cheaper and less crowded than those in Europe.

Particularly when you leave the major towns behind and head to the country, there is a considerable drop in the ticket prices. Food, of course, tends to be around the same rates but the savings are in the tickets. There are the usual expenses like hotel stay, shopping and trailer insurance but that would be there in any other place too.

There are two distinct areas you can head to. One is the region bordering France and Switzerland towards the south west and the other is the area around the Dolomites region. This region also offers some spectacular views because of the distinctive red tinged granite rocks that dot the skyline. And if you work up an appetite after all that skiing or snowboarding, you will never lack a great meal in Italy!

Getting to the resorts might entail some planning and coordinating as most of the resorts are not located close to the airport. If you are driving, that might not pose a problem.

On the whole, Italy provides a great experience for all skiing enthusiast who want to have a great time without spending a packet.
